The International Association of EMS Chief’s (IAEMSC) Annual Leadership Summit will be held in Washington, D.C. on October 28-31, 2011. This year’s event will be hosted at the Capital Hilton, site of the inaugural IAEMSC Summit in 2009. The Summit supports the association’s goal of bringing EMS chiefs and leaders together in a forum to discuss common issues and projects while facilitating access to key federal officials and the attendee’s Congressional representatives.

IAEMSC President Lawrence Tan, Special Assistant to the President Richard Reed, IAEMSC President-Elect William Sugiyama and IAEMSC Secretary Dan Gerard at the 2010 IAEMSC Leadership Summit. Mr. Reed briefed the Summit attendees on the status of National Preparedness Policy development and the role of EMS.

The IAEMSC Leadership Summit is intended for middle and senior leaders in EMS organizations. The summit has included attendees from across the United States in addition to representatives from the international EMS community.

This year, the program will feature presentations on “EMS Advocacy from the Other Side of the Table.” Attendees will have an opportunity to hear from current state and federal legislators on how your elected officials view the EMS profession, and how EMS Chiefs can improve their interaction and advocacy at the local, state and federal level. The invited speakers have subject matter expertise that includes experience as an EMS provider and State Senator. Another speaker served as an elected county legislator, county executive, and is currently a United States Senator. These speakers will provide an unparalleled opportunity to hear how our elected officials and their colleagues perceive the EMS profession, and how EMS chiefs can improve their effectiveness in promoting the public value of their services with elected officials at all levels.

The Summit will also include updates on the leading law and policy issues impacting EMS administration and EMS systems. IAEMSC members continue to shape the program agenda by identifying topics they deem priorities to their success as senior EMS leaders. The Summit will also include an exhibit hall.

PRE-CONFERENCE SEMINAR
The IAEMSC Summit will include an optional all-day EMS Leadership pre-conference session on Friday, October 28, 2011. The pre-conference seminar will permit a more in depth and personalized focus on subjects relevant to EMS chiefs, with greater interaction between the IAEMSC leadership and each pre- conference attendee.

Development of EMS budgets during these economic conditions, EMS quality improvement, leadership and staff development and other timely topics are being considered for the seminar. The pre-conference seminar is a unique opportunity to share experience, share solutions and time for professional networking.
